Her Last Pregnancy, Exactly As She Wanted It: Maggie’s Fine Art Boudoir Session
She knew what she wanted before she walked in, which is what happens when you have decided this is the last time.
Maggie booked a fine art boudoir session for her final pregnancy. Not as an add-on at the end of something else, and not as a maybe. It was the whole point, and she said so in the first email. Confident is the word, and I do not use it loosely. Plenty of mothers arrive hoping to feel that way by the end. She arrived already there.
We built the session around silhouettes. One light, a dark frame, and the edge of her shape doing all of the work. Implied and tasteful by construction rather than by negotiation, because a silhouette gives you the form and nothing else, and the form is the entire subject. It is the most technically simple lighting I do and the least forgiving, since there is nowhere for a bad line to hide. Fine art boudoir during pregnancy is some of the most warranted work in this field, and it is for every body and every stage of life, not the narrow slice that gets shown. Maggie was further along in life than most of the mothers I photograph and it read on camera as certainty.
