A Basket and Her Husband’s Guitar: Sydney’s Early Spring Session

She brought a basket and her husband's guitar, and by the end neither one was a prop.

Expecting parents together in an open meadow at dusk, a woven basket of flowers at her feet.

Sydney is a pelvic floor physical therapist, which means she spends her days doing the unglamorous, deeply important work of putting women back together after their bodies do something enormous. When she booked, she came in with a picture already in her head, and it involved things she actually owned.

That is my favorite kind of session to plan…anyone can hand you a gown. A picnic basket you use and a guitar your husband plays are yours, and they look like it. We shot early spring at the spot I keep off every map, when the light is still amber and clean and the ground has not fully woken up yet. Nothing but us in the meadow during her bump session. And nothing but love between a pregnant couple.

Early spring is underrated out here. Fewer people, softer light, and a landscape that has not committed to a color yet, so you are the thing in the frame with the most going on.

If you want to see the range Colorado gives you across a year, start with the best maternity photo locations in Colorado. If you are picturing something outside, the outdoor sessions page will tell you the rest.

Sydney sees clients at Rooted Pelvic Physio. Pelvic floor PT is one of those things almost nobody tells you about until you need it, and then you wish you had gone sooner.

Bring the thing that is actually yours. Tell me what you are picturing and we will build the session around it.
