Outdoor Maternity Photos
Colorado is the backdrop. Foothills, alpine lakes, golden aspen, and high plains, shot on location across the front range.
Outdoor Maternity Photography:
Pregnancy Framed in Colorado’s Beauty
These sessions happen anywhere in Colorado, from the foothills above Denver to alpine lakes at 10,000 feet, the gold of mid-September aspen, and the snowy mountains. I scout for light and timing, not just scenery, because outdoor portraits vary by season. The goal is never a pretty background with a person in front of it. It’s you, honored and at the center, with the landscape doing the supporting work.
Outdoor sessions are built around when to shoot and where. Fall is a brief 2 weeks here, then we jump straight to winter. Spring also is a short month, at most. Summer we get long days and golden light. Easiest way to envision your shoot is to look through the seasonal sections below. Not sure where to start? Email me your due date and I’ll plan everything around you!
Fall in the Aspen
Gold canopies and foothills at golden hour. The shortest, most-booked window of the year. In my experience, the last weeks of September and first week of October have the best color up high. The front range has golden grass and the last few sunflowers in bloom. Fall maternity photos are for the mamas due in November and December. If you’re lucky enough to be in this window, get in touch.
Winter & Snow Sessions
Snow, evergreens, and moody peaks. This is Colorado’s longest season. It’s hit or miss on whether you get snow on the front range. If you want a winter wonderland, head into the mountains. The front range shines with long shadows and weather warm enough for bare bump shots. If you’re trying to time your shoot to snow, send me your due date and we can plan around the snow calendar.
Spring Wildflowers
Green valleys and wildflower meadows, April and May are the greenest months of the year. If we get a lot of rain, flowers come out by Memorial Day. There’s always a chance of a late season snow. Spring light creates dramatic shadows behind Colorado’s front range. Check out a spring session with misty light and bright wildflowers.
Summer Glow
Summer light is golden and full of life. Outdoor maternity photos shine through the long evenings, greenery, and forgiving weather. Our second longest season, summer gives you the freedom for bare bump looks and access to all the Colorado locations that are snowed in till June. Want to see a full list?
