Four Miles In, a Toddler in Tow: Rachelle Pulver’s Lake Isabelle WanderBump Session
Four miles to an alpine lake, at altitude, in the third trimester, with a toddler who wanted to walk most of it herself.
Rachelle is a prenatal trainer, which is the only reason that sentence reads as a normal Saturday instead of a stunt. She coaches women through exactly this: staying strong while pregnant, and knowing the difference between what is hard and what is too much. She brought her husband and her son and treated the hike as part of the session rather than the price of admission.
Colorado families do things different. A hike to one of the most beautiful places in the Indian Peaks was worth it for this pregnant mama.
This was one of my first WanderBump sessions. An elopement, but for pregnancy. Not a backdrop you drive up to. A place you earn, with your people, in the third trimester at 10,000 feet.
Lake Isabelle also happens to be one of my favorite places in this state! It’s where I got engaged, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. So I knew the light, I knew where the water goes still in the evening, and I knew which stretch of trail would let a two-year-old set the pace without costing us the good hour.
