Empowered to Run: Celebrating the Strength of Pregnant Women

Pregnancy is a time of transformation, strength, and empowerment. It's a journey where a woman's body achieves incredible feats—not just in nurturing life but in continuing to thrive in movement and fitness. Recently, I had the privilege of photographing five extraordinary women, all in their third trimester, running together in the breathtaking landscapes of Evergreen. This shoot was more than just a session; it was a celebration of the resilience and beauty of pregnancy.

Running While Pregnant: A Testimony of Strength

Laura, one of the mamas in the session, shared her gratitude for the opportunity to document this unique chapter in her life. She said:

"I’m so grateful to have these stunning photos documenting the active side of my pregnancy. My goal is to encourage and inspire women to remain active throughout their pregnancies to help with delivery, recovery, return to fitness, and peace of mind. Thank you, Ethan, for bringing the five of us together and highlighting the beauty of pregnancy and running."

Laura was 30 weeks and still running every day while pregnant.

For Laura, running wasn't just about staying physically active; it was a way to maintain balance and prepare her body for the demands of labor and recovery. Her words remind us that staying active during pregnancy is not just possible—it’s empowering.

Karissa, another inspiring mom from the session, reflected on the duality of pregnancy and physical activity:

"Running during pregnancy was so powerful: my body was doing the wonderful work of growing a human and was able to still participate in a physical task like running—women are incredible!"

Karissa running at 35 weeks.

Her sentiment captures the awe and pride of knowing what our bodies are capable of during this transformative time. The ability to grow life while engaging in a physically demanding activity like running is a testament to the incredible strength of women.

The Power of Community

One of the most beautiful aspects of this shoot was the camaraderie and mutual support among these five women. Each of them was in their third trimester, showcasing the reality of carrying a baby while running and moving with grace. Together, they created a picture of strength, determination, and shared purpose—a powerful reminder that women can do extraordinary things, especially when they uplift and inspire each other.

The bond among these mamas added an extra layer of magic to the shoot. Running during pregnancy can sometimes feel isolating, especially when you're navigating changes in your body and energy levels. But these women reminded us all that finding a supportive community can make the experience not just bearable but joyful and empowering.

Pregnancy is about community.

Why Movement Matters During Pregnancy

For many women, staying active during pregnancy is about more than just fitness. It’s about connecting with their bodies, preparing for childbirth, and maintaining mental well-being. Activities like running can reduce stress, improve circulation, and boost energy levels—benefits that are especially valuable during pregnancy.

If you're considering running or staying active during your pregnancy, here are a few tips inspired by these incredible mamas:

  1. Listen to Your Body: Pregnancy is unique for everyone. Some days you’ll feel energized, and other days rest is what you need most.

  2. Find Your Tribe: Surround yourself with supportive friends or groups who understand the joys and challenges of staying active while pregnant.

  3. Celebrate Your Strength: Remember, your body is doing two incredible things at once—cherish this season and the strength it reveals in you.

Honoring the Beauty of Movement and Motherhood

This shoot in Evergreen was more than just a photography session; it was a tribute to the power of motherhood and movement. Through their running, Laura, Karissa, and the other mamas reminded us that pregnancy is not a limitation but an opportunity to embrace and celebrate what our bodies can achieve.

To all the expecting moms out there: you are strong, capable, and inspiring. Whether you’re running, walking, or simply finding your own way to move, you’re doing an incredible job. Let this be a reminder that your journey is unique, and your strength is unmatched.
